All we need is Love.... and maybe a bit more!

I also though the discussion was awesome! Overall I am just reminded about how complex everything is. Everything seems so intertwined. One small change can have an impact in multiple ways! It is entertaining to think about.
Also I am a big fan of asking the people what they want/need. I really enjoyed the comments that were made related to this subject. I look at everything I do and there is purpose behind everything. I either need to do it or I want to do it. I feel I have connection, ownership, and responsibility in my life. I think this is important for all people (or communities, tribes, families... it's important in each case). In social work we talk a lot about change. We talk about how we can create change in communities, families, the individual, etc. In each case we discuss the importance of allowing the individual to feel they are controlling their lives. We assist in brainstorming ideas and imagining possible solutions, but the main goal is for the people to decide on a solution that will work for them. We know that people are much more likely to change or participate if they have a personal connection. Finding what matters to people takes time though, which is hard and not what people want. We want quick fixes with quick results! However, I wonder if the things that take more time and are less “magic bullet” like, are more likely to be sustainable over time.
