Nothing New
I am just starting the readings for this week so basically I don’t really have anything to say that hasn’t already been said :) So… I guess echoing what has been said in class and blog posts/comments, it is important to understand things from different perspectives! Just because we understand DOES NOT mean we agree. I often feel like people are desensitized or maybe just uninformed about the violent happenings that take place in areas outside the US. It takes time and effort to put on a different lens and view the situations from the natives view. I find it rather entertaining to listen to the comments I receive or the looks I get when I say a want to travel to different countries just to learn. Providing what service I can is wonderful but often the soul purpose is to learn about the people and what their life is like in a particular area of the world. The African nations are so mysterious to me. Possibly because as a little kid I remember thinking Africa was a country and it blew my mind when I discovered it wasn’t! Anyway although this class is focused on the African nations, the frame of mind that we are learning to use can help in all situations. To understand before we make judgments, configure possible solutions, or try to create change in any way.

Kristy,
ReplyDeleteI agree! All of us come from very distinct backgrounds with differing opinions, but I think together we'll be able to learn a lot this semester. Well said.
